Se realiza un análisis de convergencia, no obteniendo evidencia concluyente de divergencia ni de convergencia en términos de PIB per cápita a nivel estatal en México durante el periodo 1994-2006. No obstante, se encuentra un claro patrón geográfico en el modelo de crecimiento regional. Tras establecer una tipología de las entidades federativas, se analizan las causas que han generado crecimiento económico en la frontera norte al tiempo que los estados del sur se estancaban o retrocedían. Diferencias en el grado de industrialización, en la productividad del sector agropecuario y en las dotaciones de capital humano y físico se presentan como las causas fundamentales de estas dinámicas. The convergence analysis does not provide conclusive evidence of divergence or convergence in terms of per capita GDP at state level in Mexico during the period 1994-2006. However, a strong geographical pattern is found in the regional growth model. Having established a typology of states, the causes that generated economic growth in the northern border and stagnation or decline in the southern states are analyzed. Differences in the degree of industrialization, in the agricultural productivity, and in the endowments of human and physical capital, are the main causes of these dynamics. Inglés
