En México la agroforestería es importante y se practica en diversas regiones del país, sin embargo, la inclusión de asignaturas agroforestales en las carreras agropecuarias a nivel de licenciatura, además de reciente, es limitada, de manera similar a muchas escuelas y universidades latinoamericanas. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue conocer la situación actual de la agroforestería en los planes de estudio de las carreras agropecuarias de nivel licenciatura impartidas en universidades y otras instituciones de educación superior públicas y privadas en México. El análisis de la información consideró el número y los porcentajes de las universidades, carreras, planes de estudio y materias agroforestales ofrecidas en las cinco carreras agropecuarias seleccionadas (Agronomía, Forestal, Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia, Agroecología y Agroforestal). Se encontraron un total de 56 materias agroforestales ofrecidas en 25 carreras y 30 planes de estudio de 16 universidades públicas localizadas en 14 entidades federativas que representan menos de la mitad del total en el país. Del total de 56 materias agroforestales 25 (44.6%) se ofrecen en la carrera de Agronomía, 17 (30.3%) en Agroforestal, 7 (12.5%) en Forestal, 6 (10.7%) en Agroecología y 1(1.8%) en Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia. La mayoría de las materias agroforestales son obligatorias (71.4%), y las restantes (28.6%) optativas. De las 56 materias agroforestales solo 17 (30.4%) se relacionan con la Agroforestería Pecuaria, 28 (50.0%) son materias agroforestales introductorias o generales y otras 28 tratan temas agroforestales específicos o particulares. De acuerdo al número de universidades, carreras, planes de estudio, materias agroforestales y estados del país en los que se imparten, se concluye que la agroforestería tiene una baja oferta en los planes de estudio de las carreras agropecuarias a nivel de licenciatura ofrecidas en México, por lo que la incorporación de materias agroforestales en las carreras agropecuarias del país es incipiente. spa

In Mexico, agroforestry is an important activity in several regions of the country, however, the inclusion of agroforestry courses in agricultural careers for undergraduates is limited and recent, as in many Latin American schools and universities. The objective of the present study was to know the current situation of agroforestry in the study plans of agricultural careers at undergraduate level taught at public and private universities and other higher education institutions in Mexico. For the analysis of the information were considered the number and percentages of the universities, careers, study plans and agroforestry courses offered in five selected agricultural careers ―Agronomy, Forestry, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Agroecology and Agroforestry. A total of 56 agroforestry courses were offered in 25 careers and 30 study plans of 16 public universities located in 14 states that represent less than half of the total in the country. Of the total of 56 agroforestry courses, 25 (44.6%) are offered in the Agronomy career, 17 (30.3%) in the Agroforestry career, 7 (12.5%) in the Forestry career, 6 (10.7%) in Agroecology and 1 (1.8%) in the Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics career. Most agroforestry courses are compulsory (71.4%) and the remaining (28.6%) are optional. Of the 56 agroforestry courses only 17 (30.4%) are related to livestock Agroforestry, 28 (50.0%) are introductory or general agroforestry courses, and another 28 deal with specific or particular agroforestry issues. According to the number of universities, careers, study plans, agroforestry courses and states of the country in which they are taught, it is concluded that agroforestry currently has a low offer in the study plans of agricultural careers at undergraduate level currently offered in Mexico, so that the incorporation of agroforestry courses in the agricultural careers of the country is incipient. eng
