This book provides a synopsis of existing information on raptors in México. Studies on the ecology, biology, taxonomy and systematics of raptors (Falconiformes and Strigiformes) are presented throughout the different chapters of the book. This work also presents an analysis of habitats and type of ecosystems where raptor studies are currently performed. Special attention was paid to display the strengths and weaknesses in knowledge of endemic, protected under Mexican law, rare, and sensitive species, and remarking specific challenges. The lack of studies in the most relevant ecosystems for raptors in México is also made evident and discussed. This compiling current work is the first on Mexican raptors, which attempts to promote, stimulate and encourage more studies on this remarkable group of top predator birds as indicators of habitar qualiry and functional biological systems. Ricardo Rodríguez-Estrella. an ecologist who has worked on raptors for che last 20 years, has mainly studied the effects of human activities on their ecology and conservation. His research focuses on basic animal ecology, landscape ecology and biodiversity conservation through spatial analysis. He has been part of the Board of Directors of the Raptor Research Foundation and a member of the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias. eng
