Chacoan peccary Catagonus wagneri (Rusconi, 1930). En: Ecology, conservation and management of wild pigs and peccaries / edited by Mario Melletti, Erik Meijaard, Cambridge, England, United Kingdom : Cambridge University Press, c2017, páginas 246-254 (Catagonus wagneri)
The Chacoan peccary was first described from pre-Hispanic and subfossil remains by Rusconi in 1930 and was believed to be an extinct species. In 1972 it was found alive in the Argentine Chaco (Wetzel et al. 1975; Wetzel 1977a, b, 1981).
