Drawn from the observations and research of an international cast of contributors, this volume blends theory, econometric analysis, and lessons from the cooperative experience. Its chapters explore many of the dimensions of agricultural cooperation, including service, production, and credit cooperatives; pricing, efficiency, and competitive cooperatives in market-oriented versus centrally planned economies; and reforms and crises. This book will appeal to agricultural economists, students of agricultural economics, and practitioners in cooperatives in both industrial and developing countries. Csaba Csaki is currently president of the International Association of Agricultural Economists, professor of agricultural economics at the Budapest University of Economics, and senior agricultural adviser at the World Bank. Yoav Kislev is professor of agricultural economics in the Levi Esh- kiol School of Agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
