La Universidad del Caribe, fue creada con la finalidad de responder a la necesidad existente en Quintana Roo de contar con instituciones de Educación Superior en la zona norte del estado que atendiera a la población de jóvenes aspirantes a cursar una carrera universitaria, para ser formados con conocimientos, actitudes y valores, pertinentes y de alta calidad, que les permitieran insertarse en el campo laboral. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar las acciones realizadas por la Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) en cuanto a la responsabilidad social universitaria. Las preguntas de investigación que sirvieron de guía fueron las siguientes ¿cuáles han sido los esfuerzos y las acciones implementadas por la Unicaribe para incluir el tema de la sostenibilidad y la responsabilidad social en sus programas educativos y en su quehacer universitario? y ¿qué obstáculos ha enfrentado la institución para implementar el cumplimiento de la RSU? La metodología empleada es la cualitativa. Se revisaron documentos institucionales, así como también se consideró la experiencia de las autoras dentro del Comité del (PAI) y de los estudiantes que han participado en diversas actividades. A partir de los esfuerzos de la Unicaribe por la implementación de la responsabilidad social universitaria, se han obtenido resultados significativos. El capítulo contiene nueve apartados, el primero consta de la introducción en la que se plantean los conceptos teóricos en los que se basan las reflexiones del capítulo, así como la metodología y los objetivos. En el segundo se explica el contexto de la creación de la Universidad con un enfoque de desarrollo humano y de RSU; en el tercero se aborda la educación transversal en la Unicaribe, a partir de la inclusión del Departamento de Desarrollo Humano. En el cuarto se enfatiza la importancia de la alineación de los programas educativos, a los ejes de responsabilidad social y sustentabilidad. Mientras que en el quinto apartado se explica el Plan ambiental institucional con sus objetivos y principales resultados. En el sexto, se hace una relación de las acciones de la comunidad universitaria en concordancia con la RSU. En el séptimo, se relatan las condiciones tanto favorable como los obstáculos que enfrento la institución en la campaña de mitigación de residuos sólidos. En el octavo, hacemos mención de la actualización del plan de manejo de residuos sólidos y adaptación a las nuevas realidades derivadas del Covid-19 para culminar con el apartado de conclusiones donde se hace un recuento de los logros alcanzados en los 20 años de la Universidad del Caribe y una reflexión crítica acerca de los alcances y limitaciones del trabajo del Comité de Sostenibilidad y de la institución en la RSU. The Universidad del Caribe was created with the purpose of responding to the existing need in Quintana Roo to have higher education institutions in the northern part of the state that would serve the young population aspiring to pursue a university degree to be trained with relevant and high quality knowledge, attitudes and values, that would allow them to enter the labor field. This work aims to analyze the actions carried out by the Universidad del Caribe (Unicaribe) in terms of university social responsibility. The research questions that served as a guide were the following: Which efforts and actions have been implemented by Unicaribe to include the issue of sustainability and social responsibility in its educational programs and in its university work? And which obstacles has the institution faced in implementing USR compliance? The methodology used is qualitative. Institutional documents were reviewed, as well as the experience of the authors within the Institutional Environmental Plan (IEP) Committee and of the students who have participated in various activities. Thanks to the efforts of Unicaribe in the implementation of the university social responsibility, significant results have been obtained. The chapter contains nine sections. The first one consists of the introduction, where we raise the theoretical concepts on which the reflections of the chapter are based, as well as the methodology and objectives. The second one explains the context of the creation of the University with a focus on human development and USR. The third one approaches transversal education in Unicaribe, starting with the inclusion of the Department of Human Development. The fourth one emphasizes the importance of aligning educational programs with the axes of social responsibility and sustainability, while the fifth section explains the Institutional Environmental Plan with its objectives and main results. In the sixth section, we mentioned the actions of the university community in accordance with the USR. In the seventh, the favorable conditions as well as the obstacles that the institution faced in the solid waste mitigation campaign are reported. In the eighth, we mention the update of the solid waste management plan and adaptation to the new realities derived from Covid-19 to culminate with the conclusions section where a count is made of the achievements made in the 20 years of the Universidad del Caribe and a critical reflection on the scope and limitations of the work of the Sustainability Committee and the institution in the USR.
