En este trabajo se abordan las subjetividades de seis tseltales de la cabecera municipal de Tenejapa con diabetes sobre las causas de su "azúcar". A través de sus narrativas, se desentraña lo que consideran causas directas y desencadenantes que, además, coadyuvan al agravamiento del padecimiento. Se da cuenta de la clara tendencia de la población del municipio a atribuir la causa a factores de orden natural-biológico, sin soslayar que en menor medida también se debe el daño producido por terceros, ak'chamel (mal echado), así como a factores de orden emocional.

This paper is about the subjectivity of six Tseltals from the main town of Tenejapa, Chiapas, about what they consider the causes of their "sugar". Through their stories we figure out what they consider direct, triggering and persisting causes of their illness. We address the tendency in this population to enunciate natural factors over supernatural, without discarding the fact that we can still find those who deposit the cause in the damage produced by third persons through ak'chamel (emitted disease).The paper also considers the importance that is attributed to emotions as triggering and aggravating factors.
