The male of the monstrilloid copepod Cymbasoma tumorifrons, originally described by M.J. Isaac from plankton samples collected in the Mediterranean (Aegean Sea), and deposited in the British Museum of Natural History, was taxonomically restudied. The species has not been recorded since its original description 25 years ago. It is redescribed herein following, the upgraded standards recently set for the description of monstrilloid copepods. Several characters such as the legs 1-4, and details of antennular armature and of the genital lappets were overlooked or misunderstood in the original diagnosis, and are described and analyzed herein. This species is closely related to C. rigidum Thompson, 1888 and the differences between both, although consistent, could prove insignificant at the species level.
