Sixty nests of Euglossa atroveneta were studied for one year (May 1990 to May 1991). Euglossa atroveneta females build solitary nests or parasocial nests shared by two, or up to 10 female bees (founder + daughters, or only daughters). The solitary nests were constructed throughout the year but parasocial nests occurred only during the rainy season. Some thirteen of 60 nests were parasited by Coelioxys costaricensis, a megachilid bee that oviposited into open and provisioned brood cells.
