La encuesta sobre migración en la frontera Guatemala-México permite obtener información sociodemográfica, migratoria y laboral tanto de los guatemaltecos que trabajan en Chiapas de manera temporal, como de aquéllos que utilizan a México como país de transito para llegar a los Estados Unidos. A partir de mediados de 2008, la encuesta se amplió a Honduras y El Salvador, denoninándose a partir de entonces Emif Sur. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo dar a conocer la metodología, alcances y limitaciones de la encuesta, así como los principales resultados para el periodo 2004-2007. La Emif Sur ha contribuido a dimensionar el fenómeno migratorio entre México y Centroamérica; y en alguna medida al diseño e implementación de nuevas politicas migratorias por parte de México. The survey on Migration in the Guatemala-Mexico Border allows obtaining sociodemographic information, labor and migratory of Guatemalan migrants working in Chiapas in a temporary way and those who use Mexico as a transit country to reach the United States. As of mid-2008 the survey was extended to Honduras and the El Salvador ever since called Emif Sur. This work aims to raise awareness of the methodology, scope and limitation of the survey and the main results from 2004-2007. Emif Sur has contributed to gauge migration between Mexico and Central America, and in some extent to the desing and implementation of new Mexican immigration policies. Inglés
