Pachycrepoideus vindemmiae is a pupal parasitoid of Diptera. Its potential as a biological control agent of fruit flies has been discussed. We present results of a demographic analysis for this species using Anastrepha ludens pupae of different ages as hosts. Adult parasitoid emergence was higher during the 5 to 8 day pupal age range, but was observed at all ages. We found that the greatest life expectancy values were obtained when the parasitoids had access to honey, producing an average lifespan of 26.02 days. Host availability (A. ludens pupa) resulted in a very effective feeding system, because the survival and fecundity of females with and without food and water were very similar when parasitoids had host available. Reproductive parameters were higher as host availability was increased, from 1 to 15 pupae per female per day, with a maximum value of 14.25 offspring/female/day. These results contribute to analyses of this parasitoid as a biological control agent of fruit flies and to mass rearing of this species. Inglés
