Diachasmimorpha longicaudata (Ashmead) is an endoparasitoidof fruit flies reared in Mexico for augmentative biological control of several species of Anastrepha. During the production of D. longicaudata different sizes of parasitoids are produced depending on the host size. In this work we investigated whether the size of the wasp influenced biological and behavioral parameters under laboratory conditions. Three sizes of pupae (small, medium and large) were used for the experiments. The size of puparia of fly hosts significantly affected the number of insects emerged as a greater number of parasitoids emerged from medium size pupae as compared to small and large pupae. The ratio of females to males did not differ among the three groups. The body size of parasitoid affected significantly the life expectancy of females and males without food because larger insects lived longer. In contrast, the body size did not influence significantly the life expectancy of female and males with food provided ad libitum. The body size of parasitoids did affect the gross and net fecundity of the females, medium and large females were more fecund. The size of females did not affect the taking off, hovering, landing and probing activities. However, the time of landing was significantly affected by the parasitoid size. Larger females spent less time to land on source than the smaller ones. The different trajectory indices evaluated were not affected by the size of D. longicaudata, except the mean walking speed. Larger females showed an increase walking speed compared with medium and small females.
