Few studies have been made in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico, regarding nectar and pollen sources for bees. Roldán-Ramos (1984) analysed and described the pollen grains found in honey samples taken from European honey bees Apis mellifera and the stingless bee Melipona beecheii, in Tixcacaltuyub, Yucatan. Villanueva (1994) made comparisons of the nectar sources used by the European and the Africanized honey bees and also between the numbers of pollen and nectar flowers visited by bees of both types.
