It is organized in 14 chapters, including the introductory chapter, which offers an overview of the widening compass of population research. The next two chapters discuss the history of world population growth, including a summary of regional trends for the period 1950-65, and several theories on population. Chapter 4 focuses on fertility levels and trends, factors affecting fertility outcomes, recent and current fertility differentials, and prospects for future trends. Chapter 5 deals with the levels and trends of mortality, factors affecting mortality outcomes, and prospects for future trends. Data on population distribution, internal migration and urbanization, and internal migration are presented in chapters 6 and 7, respectively. Chapter 8 focuses on sex and age structure, while the demographic aspects of manpower are discussed in chapter 9. Chapters 10 through 12 deal with families and households, relationships between population and natural resources, and population and food supply.
