Sampling through collection of fruit is the technique that allows to detect, count and locate (geographically) populations of immature stages of the fruit flies (Perez, 1988; Guillen, 1986; Moscamed Program, 1984). In eradication programs this technique is used as a detection tool (Enkerlin and Reyes, 1984). Besides, it serves to determine the level of infestation in different seasons on the basis of number of larvae/kg of sampled fruit. When this activity is carried out with the purpose of locating specific and alternative hosts of the pest, wild and commercial fruits are collected all year round under different ecological conditions (Moscamed Program, 1984).
